After several years of postponements and exemptions, Andhra Pradesh former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is finally set to appear before the CBI court in Nampalli before November 21. The cases, which date back over a decade, relate to allegations of disproportionate assets filed by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Despite being under investigation for years, there has been little progress, especially since Jagan assumed office as chief minister in 2019. He had earlier cited security concerns and other reasons to avoid physical attendance at the court.
Initially, Jagan secured permission to travel to London last month under the condition that he would appear before the CBI court by November 14. However, he later sought exemption again, asking to attend virtually or through his lawyer. The CBI opposed this strongly, filing a counter petition. Following this, Jagan reportedly sought an additional week’s time and agreed to appear before November 21. This will mark his first physical appearance at the CBI court in many years, drawing public and media attention to a case that has long lingered in delay.
