Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has defended Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s meeting with industrialist Gautam Adani, following criticism from the BJP. Kharge said that when it comes to government projects, Adani and his companies should be treated like any other contractor. He stressed that personal or political opinions should not influence legally conducted tender processes.
Kharge said Adani’s company emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for certain government projects and maintained that the government’s priority is to complete development works in accordance with the law. He also questioned the BJP’s position on the Bengaluru tunnel road project after an Adani group company emerged as the successful bidder. According to Kharge, eligible companies cannot be prevented from participating in government tenders simply because of political disagreements.
