Vijay-Themed Ganesha Idols Spark Controversy in Chennai..

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are being held with great enthusiasm across the country. Amid the festivities, a few Ganesha idols resembling Tamil Nadu TVK chief Vijay were installed in Chennai, triggering a political controversy. After photographs of the idols went viral on social media, opposition parties criticized the move and demanded their immediate removal. BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran alleged that portraying a deity worshipped by millions in the image of a political leader amounted to using religious sentiments for political promotion.

Nagenthran also questioned Vijay's silence over the alleged use of the festival by his supporters for political purposes and demanded that the idols be removed immediately and the organizers arrested. Responding to the controversy, TVK sources said that the concerned persons had already been instructed to remove the idols. Reports suggest that Vijay's fans have been installing Ganesha idols in a similar style for the past eight years, adding another dimension to the ongoing debate.
