Sagarika Ghose, Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, strongly criticised the Union government over the reported large-scale deployment of central armed police forces in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections. In a post on X, she alleged that the government led by Narendra Modi had ordered an “almost military-scale mobilisation” in an attempt to influence the election outcome.
Ghose further stated that despite the heavy deployment, the will of the people would ultimately prevail. Her remarks came amid reports that senior officials from forces such as the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) held meetings in Kolkata to discuss preparations for ensuring free and fair elections in the state.
