UNICEF Report Raises Alarm Over Online Sexual Exploitation of Children

A shocking UNICEF report has raised serious concerns over the safety of children on the internet. According to the report, nearly 20 million children aged between 12 and 17 across 21 countries experienced online sexual abuse or exploitation within a single year. This means around one in every five children who were online became a victim of such abuse.

The report further revealed that around 15 million children were exposed to inappropriate content, while nearly 9 million were pressured into sharing sexual images or engaging in sexual conversations. In another alarming finding, the private images of around 4 million children were reportedly shared without their consent. The findings underline the urgent need for stronger online safety measures, greater awareness among children and parents, and effective safeguards to protect minors from digital exploitation.
