Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud has expressed confidence that the Congress will retain power in Telangana, setting a target of winning 100 seats in the next Assembly elections. Speaking during an informal interaction at the Secretariat, he alleged that BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were disconnected from ground realities. He said the Congress government had given its leaders the freedom to work and claimed that coordination within the party was stronger than elsewhere in the country. He also said that several issues were expected to be addressed in November, after which the party would focus directly on the elections.
Goud criticised the previous BRS government’s borrowing decisions and said the BJP was not in a position to form the government in Telangana in the near future. He claimed that welfare beneficiaries, including those receiving fine rice and Indiramma housing benefits, as well as beneficiaries of free electricity and people who had secured government jobs, would support the Congress. He also criticised Harish Rao’s remarks on El Niño, arguing that the phenomenon was affecting the wider country. Goud further claimed that the BJP would struggle to retain its existing Lok Sabha representation and predicted that the Congress would secure a significant share of seats in Adilabad and Nizamabad. These statements reflect the PCC chief’s political assessment and election expectations.
