Government Whip Addanki Dayakar launched a sharp attack on the BJP during a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) office. He urged Congress workers to make the party’s proposed protest at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1 a success. Dayakar alleged that the BJP was attempting to create obstacles for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and prevent the protest from taking place. He also questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed march in Hyderabad, alleging that it was politically motivated and intended to counter the Congress programme in Delhi. Criticising the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Dayakar accused the BJP of undermining democracy by removing voters’ names. He stressed the need to protect voting rights and raised concerns over alleged large-scale deletions from electoral lists.
Dayakar further alleged that the BJP had no moral authority to speak about democracy, the Constitution or secularism. He accused the party of using central agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department and Central Bureau of Investigation, along with the Election Commission, to weaken opposition parties and topple governments. He appealed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to leave the NDA alliance, describing an alliance with the BJP as a “poisonous embrace.” He also claimed that discussions were underway regarding a possible BJP-BRS alliance and predicted that the BJP would face defeat at the hands of the people. Dayakar additionally criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy. These statements represent the Congress leader’s allegations, and the BJP’s response was not available at the time of writing.
