South Central Railway has stepped up its preparedness in view of the potential impact of Cyclone Arnab, which may bring heavy rainfall to several areas of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Railway officials have cautioned that train services in affected sections may be cancelled, diverted or rescheduled depending on weather conditions and safety requirements. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu and Mahabubabad districts for October 28, while heavy rainfall is also forecast in Warangal, Hanumakonda, Suryapet and Nalgonda districts on October 28 and 29. The cyclone is forecast to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam on the morning of October 28. In view of these conditions, railway authorities are monitoring vulnerable routes and preparing to make operational changes wherever necessary.
South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava reviewed safety measures and emergency preparedness with Secunderabad Division Divisional Railway Manager Dr R. Gopalakrishnan and other officials. The review covered vulnerable locations, bridges, water levels, patrol arrangements and the readiness of accident relief trains and medical relief equipment at Kazipet and Dornakal. Railway officials have advised passengers to check the latest status of their trains before starting their journeys through official platforms such as IRCTC, RailOne and NTES, or by calling the railway enquiry helpline at 139. Information about cancellations, diversions, partial cancellations and rescheduling will be communicated through SMS to passengers who provided their mobile numbers while booking reserved tickets. Updates will also be available through the South Central Railway website, official social media channels and news media.
