Political discussions are gathering momentum in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Yoga guru Ramdev has commented on AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s plans to contest in the state, suggesting that his party’s participation could split votes among certain sections of the electorate and potentially benefit Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Ramdev made the remarks while attending a regional Arya Maha Sammelan in Babhrala, Sambhal district, on Monday. Owaisi has previously said he was willing to work with opposition parties to prevent the BJP from returning to power in Uttar Pradesh and has expressed opposition to Adityanath becoming chief minister for a third time.
When asked whether he wanted Adityanath to serve another term, Ramdev said he wanted the country to be governed by good people. He also responded to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying political leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition should avoid derogatory comments and speak respectfully. On Sanatana Dharma, Ramdev criticised what he described as hypocrisy, superstition and religious exploitation, arguing that the misuse of religious figures and sacred sites damages the faith’s reputation. Meanwhile, Owaisi has criticised the Uttar Pradesh government and Samajwadi Party leaders, asserting that AIMIM representatives would raise their voices against injustice in legislative bodies.
