Former minister and BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao attended a statewide ration dealers’ meeting as the chief guest at Bingi Ellaiah Gardens in Gajwel-Pragnapur, Siddipet district. Representatives from all 33 districts of Telangana participated in the meeting to discuss issues faced by ration dealers. Harish Rao criticised the Congress government, alleging that the Civil Supplies Corporation had been pushed into debt of ₹1 lakh crore. He also claimed that coarse rice worth ₹600 crore had remained in godowns and shops for 16 months, resulting in wastage.
Harish Rao questioned why the government could not provide a monthly honorarium of ₹10 crore for 17,200 ration dealers. He alleged that election promises, including a monthly honorarium of ₹5,000, a commission of ₹300 and mini-supermarkets, had not been fulfilled. Referring to statements by Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy and ration dealers’ association president Raju about the seriousness of their respective demands, he questioned whether people had to resort to extreme statements to get their dues and grievances addressed. He warned that the BRS would raise the issue in the Assembly and Council if the government did not invite the dealers’ association for talks and fulfil its promises.
