Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a fresh attack on the Centre, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being controlled by US President Donald Trump. Referring to Modi as a “traitor”, Gandhi challenged the Prime Minister to a debate, claiming he could prove his allegations within five minutes. He said NDA leaders had suggested discussing the issue in Parliament, but alleged that his microphone was switched off whenever he tried to speak in the Lok Sabha. Taking a swipe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his three-year deadline to eliminate drugs in the country, Gandhi questioned whether Shah would still be in office by then. He also predicted that the central government would collapse within a year. Gandhi made these remarks while addressing an Insaf Rally in Sangrur, Punjab, on Wednesday.
Gandhi also questioned Shah over the seizure of drugs at an Adani port and asked what action the Centre had taken in the matter. He accused the government of failing to address concerns over law and order and called for an explanation on the situation in Manipur. The Congress leader also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had failed to fulfil the promise of eliminating the drug menace in the state. Gandhi claimed that the AAP government lacked the ability to tackle the problem. He further alleged that Mann had appeared to smell of alcohol when they sat together in the Lok Sabha in the past, adding that a Chief Minister seeking to fight drugs should not be under the influence of alcohol. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Sachin Pilot were among those present at the rally.
