Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of benefiting the BJP by splitting opposition votes in elections. Addressing a major Congress rally in Punjab attended by Rahul Gandhi, Kharge alleged that whenever the Congress is in a strong electoral position, the BJP encourages AAP to contest elections to divide opposition votes and improve its chances of winning. He criticised the party's electoral strategy and questioned its role in states where Congress is competing against the BJP.
Citing Gujarat and Goa as examples, Kharge claimed that AAP's participation in elections in these states ultimately benefited the BJP. His remarks have once again brought the political differences between Congress and AAP into focus. Although both parties are part of the opposition at the national level, their competing electoral strategies and disagreements over vote division continue to create political tensions.
