Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday clarified that notices would be issued to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) as well, if required, in connection with the phone tapping case. Speaking to the media after unveiling the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Kamareddy along with Minister Seethakka, he alleged that large-scale phone tapping took place during the previous BRS regime.
Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that phones of IAS and IPS officers, industrialists, Congress leaders, and even ruling party MLAs were tapped under the previous government. He claimed that during KCR’s tenure, phones of leaders including himself, Revanth Reddy, Shabbir Ali, and Suresh Shetkar were monitored. He asserted that probing such actions cannot be termed political vendetta and stated that if the Congress government intended political harassment, arrests would have taken place immediately after coming to power in December 2023. He added that phone tapping was allegedly used as a tool to influence the 2018 elections and maintained that whoever is found guilty must be punished strictly according to law.
Meanwhile, Minister Seethakka announced that the state government has released ₹237 crore to gram panchayats. She stated that pending central funds would also be released within a week. Emphasising the role of sarpanches, she urged them to work beyond political affiliations to develop villages as model communities. The programme was attended by government adviser Shabbir Ali, Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, and other leaders.
