The state government is actively working on the division of districts, division-level restructuring, and the creation of new districts. However, the government now has only 30 days left to complete this entire process. The new district and division boundaries must be finalized by December 20 this year.
After December 21, the Union Ministry of Statistics has clearly stated that district, mandal, or division boundaries cannot be altered.
With the deadline approaching, the government has very little time to finalize key decisions. Yet, several disputes regarding district division and mandal boundary changes are still unresolved.
Although the government has announced new districts such as Markapuram and Madanapalle, people from those regions are seeking several modifications. Meanwhile, there is also a strong demand for declaring Rajampet as a new district.
This demand carries political significance. Rajampet, a crucial constituency in the undivided Kadapa district, was won by the TDP in the recent elections. If Rajampet is declared a district headquarters, it could impact the political dynamics of the entire Kadapa region and strengthen TDP ahead of the next elections. However, the process has not yet begun.
Similarly, proposals such as carving out a new district from parts of Srikakulam, and renaming certain districts, are still pending. According to officials, over 2,000 petitions and representations are awaiting resolution.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu currently has a packed schedule, including a trip to Delhi and the upcoming Winter Assembly Sessions. This raises questions about how much time he can allocate for district restructuring. Experts caution that mishandling this process may lead to complications similar to those witnessed during the YSRCP government.
All eyes are now on the government’s next steps as the deadline draws closer.
