Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar created a rare political milestone by taking oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time. The ceremony was held in grand fashion, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several NDA Chief Ministers. With this, Nitish now stands among India’s longest-serving state leaders.
Nitish first became CM in March 2000, though that term lasted only seven days. He returned to power in 2005 and has since taken oath multiple times through shifting alliances, including NDA and RJD-led coalitions. His political journey spans more than two and a half decades, making him one of the most experienced leaders in the country.
Over the years, Nitish has switched sides strategically—aligning with the NDA, moving to the INDIA bloc, and then rejoining the NDA in 2024. Each shift led to a new oath-taking, contributing to his unique record. Despite political turbulence, he has consistently remained a key figure in Bihar’s governance.
With the latest NDA victory, Nitish has once again formed the government, marking his tenth swearing-in. His oath-taking years now include 2000, 2005, 2010, Feb 2015, Nov 2015, 2017, 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025—a historic achievement in Indian politics.
