Pawan Kalyan Orders Action Against Andhra Paper Over Pollution and Tax Dues

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has raised serious concerns over the alleged tax dues and pollution caused by Andhra Paper Limited in Rajamahendravaram. According to his statement, the company has not paid taxes to the Katheru Gram Panchayat or Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation since 2016 and is allegedly liable to pay around Rs 21.34 crore. He questioned the company’s repeated legal challenges whenever notices were issued for tax payments.

Kalyan also highlighted concerns over the volume and quality of wastewater generated by the paper mill. He said the company accounts for a significant share of the city’s liquid waste and alleged that tests showed certain pollutants exceeding prescribed limits. He stated that the government had given the company opportunities to address the concerns through notices and discussions with Pollution Control Board officials, but claimed there had been no adequate response. Kalyan has now directed officials to issue summons and take action according to the rules. He also called for faster legal proceedings in such cases and sought public and environmental groups’ support for the government’s “Clean Godavari – Sacred Pushkarams” initiative.
