The Congress party is preparing to strongly project its Backward Classes agenda ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, according to party sources. The party aims to send a clear message to the public about its commitment to providing 42 percent reservations for BC communities through a series of focused programs.
As part of this strategy, the party is planning to organize a national-level OBC convention in Hyderabad either by the end of this month or in the first week of next month. State leaders are considering inviting senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and top AICC representatives, to the event. The objective is to once again clearly communicate the party’s stand on BC reservations to the public.
Party leaders also intend to use the platform to explain their allegation that the BJP is obstructing the implementation of BC reservations. With municipal elections set to be held on party symbols, Congress leaders are considering allocating 42 percent of seats to BC candidates to challenge rival parties politically.
Looking ahead to the 2029 general elections, the party plans to campaign on the message that justice for BC reservations can be ensured only if Congress comes to power and Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. This position was recently reiterated by TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud during an OBC meeting.
He highlighted that Congress is giving significant importance to BC representation within the party, noting that 50 percent of the TPCC executive committee comprises BC members. He also pointed out that BCs account for 68 percent of vice presidents, 70 percent of general secretaries, and that BC leaders have been appointed as DCC presidents in 17 districts. The party also plans to prioritize BC leaders who have worked with dedication for Congress in the upcoming municipal elections.
