The Karnataka government has taken a significant step by proposing a ban on social media use for children below 16 years. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah mentioned this issue in the Assembly, saying that the government is considering strict measures as social media is having a strong impact on young children.
Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh government is also planning restrictions. In the Assembly, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the state government has decided to ban social media use for children below 13 years. He said that the government will finalize the detailed guidelines for this rule within 90 days.
Meanwhile, the Central government is also examining the idea of restricting social media access for minors. A recent Economic Survey report suggested that the Centre should consider limiting social media usage for children to protect them from its negative effects.
