Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has spoken out against online trolling and gender-based double standards, particularly the scrutiny women face over their clothing and appearance. During an appearance on What Women Want, hosted by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti discussed the controversy surrounding an outfit she wore in a Rakhi advertisement. She said she usually ignores online criticism and does not want to give trolls unnecessary attention. However, she was shocked when her outfit became the subject of a prime-time television debate involving a panel of six people. The incident prompted her to respond publicly, as she had not expected a routine advertisement to trigger such widespread discussion.
Kriti stressed that women should have the freedom to choose what they wear without facing unnecessary judgment. She pointed out that women are frequently targeted for their body size, height and weight, with even minor physical changes prompting intrusive comments. She also revealed that her sister had suggested disabling comments on social media to avoid negativity, but Kriti questioned why women should have to withdraw because of online criticism. Kareena agreed with her concerns, noting that women are increasingly expected to explain even ordinary changes in their appearance. She praised Kriti for addressing the issue and challenging the culture of body-shaming and online harassment.
