After Bronze, Shankara Rao Adds Silver at World Masters Championships

DV Shankara Rao from Bhadrachalam has won a silver medal at the World Masters Powerlifting Championships being held in Reno, USA. After previously securing a bronze medal at the competition, the 73-year-old athlete finished second in the Equipped Masters-4 category in the 74 kg weight class. Teragni of Denmark claimed the gold medal. Shankara Rao’s achievement has brought recognition to Bhadrachalam and highlighted his continued success in international veteran powerlifting.

What makes his accomplishment particularly notable is his sporting journey. Shankara Rao underwent heart bypass surgery 14 years ago and took up powerlifting only after turning 70. Despite these challenges, he has continued competing and winning medals on the world stage. His latest silver medal stands as a testament to his dedication, discipline and determination to pursue sport later in life.
