Veteran writer Paruchuri Gopalakrishna has shared his views on Suriya’s film Vishwanath & Sons as part of his Paruchuri Palukulu review series. While praising the performances of the cast, he felt that a few changes to the screenplay and editing could have made the film even more impactful. Paruchuri particularly appreciated editor Naveen Nooli’s effort to weave a story within the main narrative. However, he noted that the film’s runtime of 161 minutes could have been reduced to around 130 minutes by trimming certain sequences.
Discussing the storyline, Paruchuri highlighted the protagonist’s complicated views on marriage and his relationship with a woman who is 20 years younger than him. He appreciated the episodes involving the young woman who helps him have a child through surrogacy and later stays with his family. However, he felt that the sequence in which the hero visits his father’s second wife and helps resolve her difficulties was unnecessary. According to him, removing that episode and tightening the first half could have made the film stronger. He also praised the climax, particularly the emotional separation and the way the following years are presented through quick cuts, saying these elements contributed significantly to the film’s impact.
