Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has challenged BRS party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to come to the Assembly for a discussion on the state’s river water issues. He alleged that large-scale water exploitation took place during KCR’s tenure and held him responsible for the losses suffered by three districts. Revanth Reddy stated that if water from Jurala had been diverted to the Palamuru–Rangareddy project, Telangana’s rightful claims could have been protected. Announcing that Assembly sessions will begin from January 2, 2026, he called for an open debate on river water facts on the floor of the House.
Responding to KCR’s remarks made after a BRS Legislature Party meeting at Telangana Bhavan, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed the media and strongly criticized the former CM. He accused KCR of undertaking lift irrigation projects primarily to benefit contractors. He pointed out that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Palamuru–Rangareddy project was not properly submitted and recalled that KCR himself had agreed that 299 TMC of water was sufficient for Telangana. Revanth Reddy said the current government is fighting for a 71 percent share of Godavari waters and accused KCR of indulging in “one-man theatrics” to mislead the public.
The Chief Minister went on to describe KCR as an “economic offender,” alleging that he had crippled the state’s financial system by accumulating debts of nearly ₹8 lakh crore through multiple channels, which the present government is now working to correct. He questioned why permission has not been granted for a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project and why approval from the DoPT is pending for an investigation against senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar.
Revanth Reddy said he wished for KCR’s good health and wanted him to attend the Assembly. He sarcastically remarked that KTR and Harish Rao were the ones eager for KCR’s exit, alleging that KTR had even stitched new clothes in anticipation of becoming Chief Minister. He added that Harish Rao had indirectly indicated a “my way after KCR” stance and claimed that discussions had begun within the BRS about party leadership. Concluding his remarks, Revanth Reddy questioned why he would ever wish harm upon KCR and recalled that he had personally visited and enquired about KCR’s health when he was hospitalized.
