Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah reacted for the first time after an alleged assassination attempt on him, expressing shock over the incident. He said he had never harmed anyone in his life and could not understand why someone would attempt to attack him. Abdullah also revealed that Amit Shah called him on Wednesday evening to enquire about his well-being following the incident.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Jammu, Abdullah said his doors have always been open to the public and that he has consistently tried to help people who approached him with their problems. Recounting the incident at a wedding function, he said he suddenly felt something hot brush past the back of his neck and initially mistook it for the sound of firecrackers. However, his security personnel reacted swiftly and restrained the suspect, pushing his hand aside, which caused the bullet to fire into the air. Abdullah thanked the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the NSG commandos for their prompt action that saved his life.
