We Complained to NHRC and NCW Over Assembly Incident - Sabitha Indra Reddy

BRS MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy said the party has complained to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the incident at the Telangana Assembly. In Delhi, BRS MLAs, an MP and MLCs separately met NHRC member Vijaya Bharati Sayani and NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar. Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy explained to the commission representatives how police allegedly treated them outside the Assembly. They alleged that women MLAs were humiliated and prevented from entering the Assembly, affecting their rights as legislators.

Sabitha Indra Reddy alleged that the scenes outside the Assembly resembled a “Kaurava Sabha”. She claimed that women MLAs were pulled by their hair, while male MLAs were pushed to the ground and trampled. She criticised the state government for not responding despite the alleged incident and demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi respond to the alleged humiliation of women MLAs. The BRS leaders also alleged that the government had acted in a manner that violated the rights and dignity of elected legislators.
