Sri Lanka achieved a significant political reform after its Parliament voted 154–2 to abolish the long-standing pension law for Members of Parliament. The legislation, which had been in place for 49 years, allowed lawmakers to receive lifelong pension benefits after serving in office.
The decision reflects growing public demand for financial discipline and transparency in governance. By removing these special privileges, the government aims to promote responsible spending and demonstrate that national progress should take priority over political benefits.
