Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Varalakshmi delivered a verdict sentencing former Minister and YCP leader Gudivada Amarnath to six months of imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹5,000. In 2016, Amarnath undertook a hunger strike unto death at the Gandhi statue near the GVMC office to press for the establishment of a special railway zone; during this protest, his health deteriorated.
Treating this incident as an attempted suicide, the police registered a case against him at the time. Having completed the trial in the said case, the court recently pronounced its verdict. Meanwhile, Gudivada Amarnath stated that he intends to challenge this judgment in the High Court.
