The Election Commission of India has announced repolling in 15 polling booths in West Bengal following allegations of irregularities during the second phase of voting. Repolling will be conducted on Saturday in four booths in Diamond Harbour and eleven booths in Magarhat Paschim, all located in the South 24 Parganas district.
During Wednesday’s polling, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that EVM buttons were covered with tape in several booths, particularly in areas where Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Mamata Banerjee, is contesting. The party claimed that voters were prevented from casting votes for the lotus symbol. Following an inquiry, the EC ordered repolling in the affected booths. Reports also suggest that repolling may be conducted in 30 additional booths in Falta constituency, though no official confirmation has been issued.
