Congress Women MPs Slam Speaker Om Birla Over ‘Security Threat’ Remark ‌‌- Priyanka Gandhi

A major political controversy has emerged in the Lok Sabha following Speaker Om Birla's statement regarding a "specific security threat" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Speaker claimed that he received concrete information that certain opposition members might engage in an "unexpected act" near the Prime Minister's seat, leading him to advise the PM to stay away from the House last Thursday. In response, several Congress women MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wrote a strongly worded letter to the Speaker on Monday, expressing their outrage over these allegations. They described the claims as "false, baseless, and defamatory," asserting that they were being unfairly targeted for their democratic protests. The MPs accused the Speaker of acting under pressure from the ruling party to provide an excuse for the Prime Minister’s absence during the crucial Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while speaking to the media, dismissed the security threat as an "absolute lie." She stated that there was never any intention or possibility of physical harm to the Prime Minister from the 11 women MPs present. She further alleged that the Prime Minister lacked the courage to face the House and address the issues raised by the opposition, leading to the unusual passage of the Motion of Thanks without the customary prime ministerial reply. The opposition maintains that labeling elected representatives as security threats undermines the dignity of their office and the democratic fabric of the nation.
