BJP Silent on Konda Surekha’s Possible Entry

The BJP appears to be maintaining a cautious stance over speculation that former minister Konda Surekha and her family could join the party. While BJP leaders strongly criticized the Congress over Surekha’s removal from the state Cabinet, they are now carefully weighing whether bringing the Konda family into the party would benefit the BJP. Discussions are reportedly focused on whether Surekha, Konda Murali and Susmitha could join, whom they might be in touch with and what impact their entry could have on the party’s prospects in Telangana.

The Konda family is also reportedly being linked with possible political moves toward Jana Sena. A recent meeting between Surekha and BJP Telangana chief N. Ramchander Rao at Shamshabad Airport, followed by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s comments that the issue could be considered after her resignation, had fueled speculation. However, BJP leaders are now indicating that no formal discussions have begun. Surekha has said she will continue as an MLA and will not resign from the Congress. BJP leaders point out that the party’s national leadership expects leaders joining from other parties to resign from their existing party membership and elected posts. With Surekha having more than two years left in her term, the resignation condition could become a major hurdle. The party is also said to have strong local leaders in the seats sought by the Konda family, adding to concerns over internal competition.
