With the Andhra Pradesh Assembly budget session set to begin on Wednesday, Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu has taken a key decision. He has directed officials to discontinue the traditional attendance register and implement a fully digital attendance system for legislators. Going forward, MLAs attending the Assembly will no longer be required to sign a physical register, as their presence will be recorded through a digital attendance mechanism. In this regard, Assembly Secretary General Prasanna Kumar has issued a bulletin informing all members about the new system.
Meanwhile, allegations have been circulating for some time that YSR Congress Party MLAs have been marking attendance without actually attending the Assembly proceedings. There has been discussion that some YSRCP legislators were signing the attendance register and leaving without entering the House. Against this backdrop, the Speaker’s decision to introduce digital attendance has gained political significance and drawn considerable attention.
At the same time, reports indicate that YSR Congress Party MLAs have decided to attend the Assembly on Wednesday. While there is still no clarity on their participation in the sessions from the following day, Legislative Council Opposition Leader Botsa Satyanarayana has already stated that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will attend the Assembly on Wednesday.
