Tensions remain high despite a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States. Israel has made it clear that it will continue its military operations in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier confirmed this stance. Iran’s National Security Council has strongly criticized the statement. Reports suggest warnings have been issued that continued attacks in Lebanon could trigger retaliatory strikes targeting Tel Aviv. The lack of clarity around the ceasefire terms has led to conflicting positions. Hezbollah has indicated willingness to support the ceasefire, but Israel maintains a different approach.
According to Pakistan, which played a mediating role, Lebanon is included in the ceasefire framework. Iran insisted that any agreement with the US must include halting attacks in Lebanon, but Israel has opposed this condition. Israel launched a ground operation in Lebanon on March 2 aiming to push back Hezbollah forces and establish a buffer zone up to the Litani River. Since then, around 1,500 people have been killed and approximately 1.2 million displaced.
With Israel unwilling to stop its operations, the ongoing violence could prevent the temporary ceasefire from evolving into a long-term agreement.
