US President Donald Trump's remarks about NATO member countries have sparked an international debate. In an interview, Trump stated that he does not believe NATO countries would stand by the US if his country were in danger. He commented that NATO countries have not been at the forefront of battles when needed, and have instead remained in the background during wars. Citing the Afghanistan war as an example, he said that American forces primarily bore the brunt of the fighting. These remarks have caused dissatisfaction among NATO member countries.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reacted strongly to Trump's comments. He said that NATO countries, including British soldiers, made huge sacrifices in the Afghanistan war, and that these remarks were an insult to them. He demanded that Trump apologize. Prince Harry of Britain also responded, commenting that this is the time to honor the sacrifices of British soldiers in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Trump also made comments about the United Nations. He stated that the UN would benefit if it worked with the Gaza Peace Council. At the same time, following criticism from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump withdrew the invitation extended to Canada to join the Gaza Peace Council.
