Rare sea fish often command extraordinary prices across global markets. While many such fish sell for thousands or even lakhs, a recent auction in Japan stunned the world.
At Tokyo’s famous Toyosu Fish Market, a massive 243-kg bluefin tuna was brought in for auction. After intense bidding, the fish was purchased for a record-breaking $3.24 million, which is roughly ₹29 crore in Indian currency.
The winning bid was placed by Kiyomura sushi chain president Kiyoshi Kimura. Such auctions are held annually, and bluefin tuna consistently attracts premium prices due to its exceptional demand in Japanese cuisine, especially sushi.
This sale once again highlighted Japan’s deep cultural and economic connection with premium seafood.
