A tragic shooting occurred at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on December 14, 2025, during Hanukkah celebrations, killing 15 people. One of the two attackers also died at the scene. The Australian government and police have confirmed it as a terrorist attack. The attackers were identified as Sajid Akram (50) and his son Naveed Akram (24). Preliminary reports suggest they were influenced by ISIS ideologies, and the investigation is still in progress.
According to Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy, Sajid Akram was originally from Hyderabad, Telangana and moved to Australia in 1998 in search of job opportunities after completing his B.Com degree. He married Venera Grosso, a woman of European origin and settled there. His son Naveed Akram and daughter were born in Australia and are Australian citizens, while Sajid continued to hold an Indian passport. Relatives in Hyderabad said Sajid had only limited contact with his family for nearly 27 years. Initial findings indicate that neither India nor Telangana had any role in the radicalization of Sajid and his son. The DGP also clarified that Sajid Akram had no criminal record in India. He urged the media and public not to engage in speculation or spread unverified information.
