The Supreme Court of India has temporarily stayed the interim orders issued by the Telangana High Court regarding the hike in cinema ticket prices. Earlier, the High Court had directed that the state government must issue a Government Order (GO) at least 90 days prior to a film’s release if producers wish to increase ticket prices. The directive created concerns within the film industry, especially for upcoming releases.
Following this, leading production house Mythri Movie Makers approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order. Hearing the petition on Friday, a bench comprising Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice A.S. Chandurkar granted a stay on the High Court’s directions. The court stated that, for now, the existing procedure followed for ticket price revisions can continue. This decision has brought relief to filmmakers, allowing flexibility for premiere shows and ticket price revisions for upcoming films.
