Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, who was recently sent to Tihar Jail in a cheque bounce case, has clarified that non-payment of money was not the sole reason behind his imprisonment. Speaking in a recent interview, the actor said there were several other factors involved in the dispute.
“I have helped many people over the years, but I have never spoken publicly about it. For the past 25 years, many people from my village to Mumbai have stood by me. The fact that my career has continued successfully for so long is proof of that support. I have acted in more than 250 films, which would not have been possible without the backing of the industry. For someone who has spent so many years in the film industry, paying ₹5 crore is not a big issue. It is not right to say that I went to jail only because I did not pay that amount. If that were the real issue, it would have been resolved back in 2012,” he said.
Explaining how the controversy began, Rajpal Yadav stated, “We had already spent ₹12 crore on a film, but later the budget rose to ₹22 crore. That is where the problems started. Losses are common in any business. In the film industry, only about 20 out of 100 films succeed, while the rest fail. Just because a film does not receive audience support does not mean there was fraud involved. I have complete faith in the judiciary. I did not start this battle, but I will certainly bring it to an end,” he added.
