US President Donald Trump has directed federal executive-branch agencies to use “Super Intelligence” (SI) instead of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) in most official communications. Under Executive Order 14434, signed on September 29, 2026, agencies are instructed to adopt the new terminology in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents and other non-statutory materials, to the extent permitted by law. The White House says the change is intended to reflect the growing capabilities and potential of advanced technologies.
The order does not require previously issued regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants or historical documents to be rewritten. It also does not impose this terminology on private companies or media organisations. For now, “Super Intelligence” is defined using the existing federal legal definition of artificial intelligence, while the president’s science and technology adviser has been directed to propose legislative language for a federal definition within 60 days.
