Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has made a name for herself through women-centric films, suspense thrillers and commercial entertainers, despite having no film industry background. The actress, who built her career through hard work and talent, has now spoken about the bias she believes she faced in the industry. Taapsee said that some people found it difficult to accept her growth because she did not belong to a star family and had no influential godfather or major studio backing her. She recalled that when she was offered the lead role opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s film ‘Dunki’, the news came as a surprise to many in the industry. According to Taapsee, she had no personal connections with Shah Rukh Khan’s social circle and had never worked with Hirani before receiving the offer.
Taapsee explained that Rajkumar Hirani had invited her to his office after appreciating her performance in another film. When he asked whether she would like to hear the story of ‘Dunki’, she said she initially found it hard to believe. She also alleged that, because she had no industry connections and kept her personal life private, some people spread negative stories about her. Taapsee said she was labelled difficult to work with and that rumours were circulated claiming that others did not want to work with her. Despite these challenges, she expressed pride in building her career through her own talent and determination, adding that she would not allow anyone to confine her to a particular image or stereotype.
