

Srinivas Narayanan, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of B2B Applications at OpenAI, has announced his resignation and plans to return to India, a move that has sparked widespread discussion on social media. After spending three years with the company, Narayanan described his journey as an “incredible experience” and confirmed that he had informed the organization in advance about his decision. His announcement comes at a time when OpenAI has been actively launching new products and expanding its technological footprint.
Narayanan stated that before finalizing his next professional move, he intends to spend time in India with his aging parents. He also expressed gratitude to Sam Altman and Greg Brockman for their support during his tenure. An alumnus of IIT Madras and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he began his career at IBM Almaden Research Center and later spent over a decade at Meta, where he led key initiatives such as Facebook Photos. At OpenAI, he played a pivotal role in building and scaling the Applied Engineering team, which transforms research into products used by millions worldwide.
