The ongoing strike by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation workers has disrupted bus services across the state, forcing commuters in Hyderabad to shift to metro trains and other modes of transport. With nearly 10,000 buses off the roads, around 2.5 million daily passengers are facing severe inconvenience. Metro stations across the city are overcrowded, and demand for autos has also surged as people struggle to reach their destinations.
The strike was called by the joint action committee demanding fulfillment of 32 promises, including merger and union-related issues. Talks with a committee of senior officials failed after the government sought four weeks to resolve the issues. However, Y. Nagi Reddy stated that the government is positive about addressing workers’ concerns and urged employees to return to duty. He assured that the issues would be resolved in phases, while further discussions between both sides are expected.
