A special court of the National Investigation Agency has sentenced seven accused, including mastermind T Naseer, in the 2023 Bengaluru prison radicalisation case linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The court awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine to all accused under various laws. The accused had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges related to a terror conspiracy planned inside a central prison.
The investigation revealed that the accused were involved in identifying, recruiting and influencing inmates towards terror activities. The case was first registered by Bengaluru police and later taken over by NIA, which uncovered a larger conspiracy including plans to help Naseer escape. One accused was brought back from Rwanda, and efforts are ongoing to catch another absconding accused.
