A recent report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms has raised serious concerns over the background of candidates contesting in Tamil Nadu elections. According to the survey, out of a total of 4,023 candidates, affidavits of 3,992 candidates were analyzed. The findings revealed that a significant number of candidates have criminal backgrounds, highlighting a worrying trend in the electoral process.
The report further stated that 722 candidates have criminal cases registered against them, while 404 candidates are facing serious criminal charges. Compared to previous elections, this number has nearly doubled, indicating a sharp rise in candidates with serious allegations. The data has sparked debate over the need for stricter scrutiny and reforms in the candidate selection process.
