The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued crucial instructions to pan masala manufacturers across the country. The department announced that every pan masala package—regardless of its weight or size—must display the Retail Sale Price (RSP) and all other mandatory declarations as per the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
This new rule will come into effect from February 1, 2026. From that date, all manufacturers, packers, and importers of pan masala must ensure full compliance, the department said in an official statement.
With this decision, small sachets weighing 10 grams or less, which earlier enjoyed certain exemptions, will no longer be excluded. These packs must now clearly print the retail price and include all mandatory declarations required under the 2011 rules.
According to the department, this change will help consumers receive transparent price information across all pack sizes. It will also prevent misleading or deceptive pricing in smaller packs, ensuring consumers can make informed purchases.
