Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, one of the most respected voices in Hindi and Marathi cinema, passed away at the age of 89 in Mumbai due to age related health issues. Born on January 28, 1937, in Dhaka, she began her musical journey in the 1950s and went on to become one of India's most admired playback singers.
During a career spanning more than three decades, Suman Kalyanpur sang hundreds of memorable songs and worked with some of the biggest names in Indian music, including Mohammed Rafi. She was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2023 for her outstanding contribution to Indian music. Her passing has prompted tributes from across the film and music industries.
