Just when it seemed that a peace understanding was within reach, West Asia has once again been shaken by explosions. The United States forces carried out strikes on military targets in Guruk city and Qeshm Island in Iran. The US Central Command stated on X that the attacks were conducted in self-defense, citing the downing of its MQ-1 drone in international waters and other aggressive actions. It further claimed that Iran’s air defense system, a ground station, and two attack drones were destroyed, which posed a threat to US naval assets in the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s IRGC alleged that the US also targeted telecom towers on Sirik Island. In retaliation, Iran announced counterstrikes on an airbase used by the US, though it did not disclose its location. Reports also indicated that Kuwait’s air defense systems were activated hours earlier after detecting possible threats. Qeshm Island holds strategic importance in controlling the Strait of Hormuz, housing underground missile facilities with anti-ship cruise missiles like Ghadar 380 and HY-2 Silkworm, along with ballistic missiles such as Qiam-1, Khaibar Shekan, Ghadr, and Emad.
