

The famous Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple, the only Saraswati temple in South India known for Aksharabhyasam rituals, is set for a grand reconstruction with an estimated cost of ₹225 crore. The redevelopment will include a nine-storey Rajagopuram, a temple pond in the northeast direction, meditation halls, and expansion of the temple Premises up to three times its current size. The project is being undertaken with the approval of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will perform the foundation stone ceremony on Monday.
Located on the banks of the sacred Godavari River, the Basara temple holds immense spiritual significance. According to legend, Vyasa Maharshi established the idols of Goddess Saraswati, Mahalakshmi, and Mahakali using sand from the river after the Kurukshetra war. With its rich history spanning thousands of years, the temple’s redevelopment aims to enhance facilities and attract more devotees while preserving its traditional heritage.
