The IT employees’ association, NASSENT Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), has expressed serious concern over recent layoffs in the tech industry. The group urged companies to focus on upskilling their employees instead of resorting to mass terminations. NITES emphasized that actions should be taken to ensure job security for white-collar workers, and employees who are let go must receive proper compensation and protection.
With the increasing adoption of AI, uncertainty and fear of layoffs are rising in the IT sector. NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja stated that companies must recognize their responsibilities and invest in employee reskilling alongside AI implementation. He suggested that layoffs should be a last resort and called on governments to intervene swiftly. The association also stressed the need for clear workplace regulations, notice periods, and fair compensation, highlighting the lack of protections for private-sector white-collar employees in India.
