Amidst the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, a controversy has erupted over a film produced against a political backdrop. A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking to stay the release of the movie titled 'TN 2026'. M.L. Ravi, President of the Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi, filed the petition, arguing that the film—which is slated for release on April 10—has the potential to influence voters. The petitioner contended that since the movie features a storyline in which a star hero enters politics and rises to become the Chief Minister, it bears a resemblance to the real-life situation of actor Vijay, who has recently entered the political arena. He asserted that the release of such a politically themed film just prior to the elections would inevitably impact the public's voting choices.
However, the film's story writer, Thambi Ramaiah, refuted these allegations, clarifying that the narrative has absolutely no connection to Vijay. He stated that the film was not crafted based on the life of any specific individual, but is merely a generic political drama. He further revealed that the story was written and the filming completed over a year ago. The movie, which had already become a topic of discussion within film circles following the release of its teaser, has now sparked a controversy against the backdrop of the ongoing elections. Despite having obtained clearance from the Censor Board, the court is expected to make the final decision regarding the release of the film ahead of the elections.
