Migratory birds, particularly Painted Storks, are attracting attention in M. Muppalla village of Naguluppala padu mandal in Prakasam district. These birds visit the region every summer and stay for a few months, offering a visual treat to locals and visitors. Known for the pink color at the tips of their wings, these birds are called Painted Storks, while in Telugu they are popularly referred to as “Erra Kaalla Konga”.
The birds have long legs, white bodies with black markings, and a strong physique. Their long, yellow beaks, measuring around 12 inches, add to their unique appearance. They have built nests on trees located in the middle of the M. Muppalla village pond. According to villagers, more than 100 birds arrive here every year and remain until the end of the summer season before migrating back.
