India has secured the second position globally in 5G usage, marking a significant milestone in its digital growth. The number of 5G subscribers has reached 400 million, with monthly data consumption touching 12.9 exabytes, reflecting rapid adoption across the country. Additionally, as of February 2026, the number of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) subscribers has grown to 11.9 million, according to the report. These figures indicate the swift expansion of 5G technology in India.
Furthermore, 137 million 5G smartphones were sold across the country last year. Out of the 892 million 4G devices currently in use, around 383 million units are already 5G-compatible. Notably, in metro cities, 5G accounts for 58% of total internet usage, highlighting its increasing dominance. Experts believe these developments underline India’s rapid progress in strengthening digital connectivity.
